Success
Anyone ever wonder why society is more interested in success then happiness? I have, in fact I still do have questions about this nonsense. It doesn't make sense to work yourself to the point where getting wasted or high is the only relief from life. Would it not seem reasonable to pursue joy rather then success. In the end what difference does it really make? I don't know I guess just food for thought.

Rebound
To quote Pat Riley; "If you win the rebounds you win the rings." Yet, I hear people talk about offense and defense, never rebounding. Now let me clear this up before I mislead you and make you honestly believe that I don't care about defense. This couldn't be further from the truth. I strongly believe a well executed defense wins championships. Yet, rebounding, which is a fundamental key to all championship caliber teams, is often forgotten. Think back to the great teams through the years. Each and every one of them owned the glass. By dominating the boards a couple things happen. First, second chance point are eliminated. Which will consequentially bring the opposing teams shooting percentage down and decrease the number of points scored. Second, it increases the second chance point for the team on the owning the glass. Anyway, enough of this. Grab the boards and you'll, bottom line.

Independence Day
Each year Americans get the chance to celebrate the 4th of July. A great day to feel truly patriotic. To remember what our forefathers have done for our independence. For me it's also a great chance to tip my hat to the men and women who fight to keep our freedoms. With that said I personally can't stand the 4th.
Why? One word: fireworks. Not only are they extremely loud and but they are a fire hazard. Fireworks are unpredictable and as far as I'm considered not safe for the public’s use. I will concede that there are those who can use them responsible and can in fact have a great time because of them. However, most people are not responsible nor are they careful.
I think it's no surprise that the fire department has special equipment for the 4th. The gear just sits in the station 364 days a year collecting dust. Then the 4th comes around and they clean off the dust and have it in fully operationally condition.
Look, if you enjoy fireworks that great for you. But please take it from me leave it to the pros! And if you choose to not agree with that request then fine! Just don't use them in a residential neighborhood where your fire cracker will end up in my living room. Go find an open lot of field. At least try to have some common sense!

Football in 2011
From the beginning of the lockout there has been a lot of speculation as to whether or not there will be a season this fall. Well, after some time and a lot of help from the courts it appears the NFL will return. The only question now is will it be a full season.
"I have been optimistic the whole time and it sounds like they are trying to work it out, the owners and players are trying to get everything figured out," the New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning said Monday in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "I do feel we will have a season.
"Hopefully, everything gets worked out quickly so we can get to training camp on time and get guys back to work and have a full season. That's what the fans want. Obviously, they are the ones that make this possible, so hopefully we can get it done for them."
July is right around the corner and no one has started a training camp yet. Will the players be emotionally and physically ready by the end of August? Only time will tell. I'd like to turn the attention now to the NBA as it's CBA will be expiring at the end of the day tomorrow.
How will the NFL lockout affect the NBA? Thoughts? I figure at this point not much. The NFL took their business to court. Although this may seem to be what was needed, or not needed depending on whom you're asking, it was a unique strategy that I doubt will be used or even required for the NBA to get it together.

How trivial is it?
I've spent a lot time lately thinking about some pretty trivial things. Yet, I seem to find myself still overwhelmed by the importance I've given these thoughts. Can you thing of a time when you knew that you needed to move on and still found a way to maintain the same old song and dance? I have, I do it every day.
What seems to be most interesting about this issue is that I know I'm not alone. The millions that go through this daily understand the need to push forward but still fall short. Some may ask why I spend so much time thinking about this junk. I don't know.
If there has been one thing I've always been amazing at it's this, reflection. Many times even, over reflection. Although I may not say much in person, believe me, I'm saying a lot in my head.
Every interaction I have I ignore the countless thoughts that come to mind, the words I refuse to speak. This sounds like a great thing. To have the self-control to avoid making comments that could cause added drama. Well done. Yet, I seem to sit in my room quiet and alone each night and run the conversations over and over in my head. “If I had said this, maybe...”
I agree that there are things we should keep to ourselves and yet I can't help but think about what I could have said that would have made things better. Anyway, my next post will be coming soon, I'll be checking in on the current NFL lockout.

What is your greatest fear?
As summer 2011 begins my brother and I seem to find ourselves located in the normal position. We talk about many great exciting things that would be both fun and good for our body, mind, and soul. Yet, we still find ourselves comfortably sitting in the living room each morning wondering what to do that day.
Well today the conclusion was to put on a movie, so I grabbed a choice we both agreed upon and slipped in Coach Carter. A fantastic film if you asked me. Every time I watch it I get all emotion and feel the overwhelming feeling that has lead me to studying to become a teacher.
No, I'm not referring to the feeling that I want to do something so out there that I get my own movie, however, I do want to change lives as Coach Carter has.
One thing that continues to stand out from this film is the scene where Mr. Cruz recites a passage from Marianne Williamson's book A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
This passage always gets to me. Enjoy it. Coach Carter is a great film and if you haven't seen it yet I strongly suggest seeing it. I hope you all enjoy your summer! Keep an eye out for my next post.

D Fish for the win?
As the 2010/2011 season comes to a close I begin to look to Derek Fisher. Not for the normal post season heroics that we have grown accustom to from the veteran point guard. Rather to the man that has the future of next season rest in his hands. Unlike the NFL I truly believe the NBA can and will work out a new CBA that will keep the league from ever reaching lockout status. This may sound ignorant or even slightly naive for someone to say. Why is the NBA any different? After all this won't be the first time the NBA has been locked out.
I'm quite aware of what is probably going to happen, yet I am choosing to approach this topic with a more optimistic mind set. Derek Fisher is not a fool and he of course as I would expect from any good business man or women will do everything in his power to get the best possible deal for the players, however, to get you most give. I have full faith in Fisher's ability to work out a deal that works for both the owners and the players.
I'm sure that what has happens thus far with the NFL has played and will play a hand in what Fish can accomplish. So I say here's to you Derek Fisher, may you keep the players happy but most importantly may you keep the fans happy and get the league up and running by the start time next season.
